PROCESS OF STEM CELLS STORAGE

Stem cells are unique cells. They multiply to produce blood, tissue, organ cells and bone and are helpful in repairing the diseased cells of the body. They can transform themselves to any of the 220 cells present in the human body. This makes them a very vital equipment in modern day medicines. The process of storing these stem cells IS a process of great skill.

Before the process of storage or preservation of stem cells, they are some various processes to be processed. 

(I)-  processing of stem cells- this also includes three sub procedure.

       (a)- cleaning- the impurities and cell debris are cleaned in this procedure. These can create problems in the future if not removed earlier.

Impurities can be of different kinds. All the impurities are cleaned and the cell is made completely pure. In order to prevent any ruptures in the future.

       (b)- removal of plasma- the plasma of any cell contains many vital minerals such as calcium, potassium and sodium which don't have any role to play on the stem cells. This is why, they are removed in the earlier stages. The temperature of the sample cell is lowered and kept at -40 degree Celsius. These cells can be kept in the freezer for a long period of time without being affected. After this process only they can be shifted to the cryogenic freezer where the stem cells are kept at -196 degree Celsius. At this temperature, the cells are protectively kept. Without this process, the process to store the stem cell is incomplete.

(III)- preventing the cross contamination-  the prevention of cross contamination is necessary. If it is not done, there are chances of the various UN-wanted virus to attack the stem cells.  There are chances of HIV, Hepatitis etc kind of diseases in the cell. So in order to prevent such diseases, this extra step of prevention is undertaken.
